I have been an economics teacher for 20 years.
For the second year in a row in the Idaho legislature, I have strongly supported Idaho schools and teachers. Funding has been restored to pre-recession levels – this is good news for Idaho's students, teachers, and schools.
However, there is still a lot of work to be done in order to recruit, and keep, the best teachers for Idaho. Providing a high quality education for Idaho children is a priority of mine. For too long Idaho schools have been overburdened with unnecessary reporting requirements, Common Core standards and SBAC testing requirements.
In 2017 I tracked $101 million of wasteful government spending in Idaho that could have provided every hard-working teacher in our state with a yearly raise of $6,700!
I am fighting to fully fund our schools, maintain high standards, and ensure local control. Common Core and SBAC testing should not be forced on our school districts. I am committed to provide parents, students, and districts the freedom of choice when it comes to education.
I have sponsored legislation to end Common Core, to repeal SBAC testing and to increase the freedom for school districts to make their own policy decisions.
